Ah, what a step up from my previous scooter. I really liked the GoTrax Glider, but unfortunately after it broke down I realized that the customer service was not great. With these types of devices, it is really important to have the peace of mind that if something does break (which it probably will at some point) the seller stands by their product. The reviews for this scooter show again and again that the seller cares.
I park 15 minutes walking distance from the building I work at because I am strongly against paying for parking. Sure, I’m spending money on a scooter but 1. It doesn’t feel like my money is just floating away with the wind like when paying for parking 2. I can use this scooter wherever I want, even beyond this job and 3. this scooter makes my commute /way/ more fun.
So the pros that I can see so far are as follows:
– Great customer support!
– The tires are solid and so they do not need to be inflated, which equals less maintenence and headache than a bike
– This scooter gets to 18mph under recommended conditions (please keep in mind weight suggestions on the product page and do not ride in the rain)
– The smooth ride compared to cheaper scooter models is immediately evident. Although you will feel some bumps with any scooter, this particular one has suspension that makes the ride much more enjoyable.
– Regenerative breaking. This means that the scooter will automatically recharge itself a bit when you go downhill and when you press on the break.
– Cruise control (what?!) that you can set on the app initially so that every time you hit a certain mph on the scooter, it beeps to let you know that you can let go of the throttle. Tap the brake to disengage.
– Option to connect a seat. Keep in mind that there are two versions of this scooter- one that comes with a seat and one that does not. Even if you get the one without a seat, you can always buy one in the future.
– The app used with this scooter is very user friendly. As soon as I opened it, the scooter beeped indicating it was connected. Inside of this app, you can choose a speed limit, lock the tires, and view the speedometer (as if the on-board speedometer wasn’t cool enough).
Cons:
– This thing is heavy! If you are planning to regularly take it up multiple flights of steps, please keep this in mind.
– Compared to my previous lighter scooter, this one does not easily transport. By this I mean I can’t just fold it up and roll it around or carry it without some difficulty. Because of this, I am planning on getting a U lock and a remote-controlled alarm so that I can keep it on the bike rack outside of work. (around $30 total- I will update this post with the devices I choose later)
– the kickstand sticks out a little even when it is closed. I might end up putting a small piece of cushion on the sharp edge.
Really.. that’s it. I have learned that I probably need to treat this scooter like I would a bike. It is 28 lbs, after all. As long as you are okay with that aspect of it, I definitely recommend this scooter with its fantastic value.
